Fur & Shearling Cleaning

A well-cleaned fur or shearling garment is a well-preserved one. Regular professional cleaning removes the dust, oils, and environmental residue that accumulate with wear — restoring your piece to its best and protecting it from premature deterioration.

Professional Care

Annual care by a qualified fur and leather specialist is the single most important thing you can do for your garment — preventing premature deterioration and ensuring it retains its lustrous appearance year after year.

  • Have your garment professionally inspected and cleaned at least once a year by a fur and leather specialist.
  • Never dry clean or use commercial cleaning products or petroleum-based solvents.
  • Remove or cover all accessories — belts, buckles, and metal hardware — before any cleaning.
  • Always store on a broad-shouldered outerwear hanger — never a narrow or wire hanger.
  • For seasonal storage, use a professional humidity and temperature controlled cold storage facility. If storing at home, keep in a cool, humidity controlled closet and never store in a plastic or synthetic garment bag.
  • Après-Ski jackets: hand clean with a warm cloth and mild detergent, hang to air dry, and avoid commercial dryers and temperatures above 70°F. Remove all detachable fur, leather belts, and protect metal accessories before cleaning.
  • Cashmere coats and accessories: entrust to a fine cleaner using a low temperature, petroleum-free process.

Day to Day Care

  • Avoid cologne or perfume while wearing your garment — fragrance damages natural fur over time.
  • Wear a light scarf underneath to protect from makeup and skin oils.
  • If slightly wet, shake out gently and hang to dry naturally — never use a dryer or expose to heat above 70°F. If heavily soaked, bring immediately to a qualified fur specialist.
  • For fresh stains, dab gently with a damp cloth in the direction of natural growth — never rub or scrub, as this causes matting.
  • Smooth fur with your hand in the direction of natural growth — never use a brush or comb.
